First Single and Album Announcement!

I'm over the moon excited to announce the debut Radio Haw album, Counsel of Serpents, will be released on May 31.

The first single is up on all the streaming places. Head to Bandcamp to preorder vinyl or for a sneak peak at all the singles. Link to everything is in bio.

I'm excited to be talking with @thisisaaronkeck on @wchlchapelboro about the album and all things Radio Haw on May 24.

My gratitude goes out to the incomparable @williamschaff for the incredible piece in the main album art. William created this work for me back in 2020. It's hanging on my wall, tattooed on my arm, and now adorns the front of this album. It's fair to say that I cherish it. An extra special thanks goes out to @jordanperlson for the groovy drums and percussion heard throughout most of the album. Please check out the work of William and Jordan. They rock.

If you're new to the Radio Haw family, welcome! Radio Haw is the music project of Matt Gray. Influences range from Townes Van Zandt, Leonard Cohen, to Robert Hunter-penned Grateful Dead.

Radio Haw creates "bedroom" folk that would fit in the record crate alongside Elliott Smith or Hiss Golden Messenger's early 4-track-recorded Bad Debt. The songs are elevated from the bedroom toward the cosmic on the back of their searching lyrics, crunchy guitars, and ethereal organs. Set all of this in Radio Haw's backyard of tree-shrouded, poison ivy-lined, Haw River paths in the North Carolina Piedmont and the sound rounds out into its own flavor of southern gothic folk rock.

With a vibe that would suit the jukebox of some supernatural roadhouse just out of town, many of the songs off the upcoming album, Counsel of Serpents, started as home demo recordings alongside the unrest of the early 2020s. With lyrical motifs ranging from the exploitation of spirituality to too-long acid trips, Counsel of Serpents speaks to the perils and triumphs of being human in our current world.

Love,
Matt

P.S. radio haw is a new project. please share and help spread the word if you feel so inclined. it's very much appreciated.
